Connect to the Breath

If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed one of the best things that you can do is connect to the breath. By focusing on the breath, the body is sending signals to your nervous system to calm down. You can do this anytime throughout the day when you are experiencing this tension or emotions.

How to connect to the breath:


*You can take a few deep breaths initially to let out any tension. To do this you can inhale through the nose and then do a deep long exhale out the mouth. (this one is optional)


*Then simply allow yourself to breathe naturally out of the nose and observe the breath. You can do this for 30 seconds to a minute. Or longer if you prefer.

Another option is to count the breath. For this you can do a count of four for the inhale and a count of four for the exhale. Then you can lengthen the exhale to further calm yourself down.

**After you connect to the breath then you can connect to your body and just notice how it is feeling. If you are feeling tension in a certain part of the body then you can send your breath and awareness to that area.

Give this one a try. You will be amazed at how powerful the breath is and how big of an impact it has on how you are feeling.
