The Art of Leadership

The great and challenging thing about leadership is that there isn't a "one size fits all" approach that works. This is where the art of leadership comes in.

What is effective in one situation may not work in another. What works best for me may not be aligned with how you do things.

There are certain principles that are important for leaders to understand such as vision setting, appreciation, accountability, running effective meetings, crisis management, etc.

However, when it comes to how to best manage or respond to a situation there are three essential things to consider:

  • Your personality

  • The personality of the people involved and your relationship with them

  • The situation itself

It is being able to quickly analyze these things and respond accordingly.

So how do you do that?

Here are three key points!

  1. Practice and reflection - In order to grow in this area, you need to have real-life experience and go through it. You are going to do things really well and you are going to make a lot of mistakes! That is part of the journey. it is being able to learn from these and continue to improve.

  2. Be fully present - When you are living in the present moment then you will have a heightened sense of awareness. You will be more in tune with the situation and will have a better sense of how to handle it.

  3. Listen to your intuition - With practice, being present, and trusting yourself your intuition will continue to strengthen. This can be a valuable tool for a leader to have!

Leading your team and handling the many situations that come up is where the beauty in leadership is. When you have a growth mindset and use the three keys listed above then you will continue to become a more effective and impactful leader!
