Changing Your Limiting Beliefs in Leadership

What is holding you back as a leader?

Oftentimes, it is a limiting belief that you have.

This limiting belief can be about yourself. For example, your ability to inspire, give speeches, deal with conflicts, etc.

OR

It can be a limiting belief that you have about your team. This could be doubting their level of responsibility, their work ethic, or what they are capable of achieving.

Here is a five-step process that I use for getting rid of these limiting beliefs and replacing them with empowering ones.

#1 - Identify the limiting belief. You can identify them by asking yourself, what is a limiting belief that I have about my leadership? Or, what is a limiting belief that I have about my team? Sit with these questions and write down whatever arises.

#2 - Question the limiting belief. Is this true? Where did it come from? Is this serving me?

#3 - Create a new belief that serves you. This belief will help you build the life that you want to live. What is a belief that I can develop that will empower me to reach my goals?

#4 - Make a list of evidence to support your new belief. Come up with all the reasons that you believe this to be true. Write this list down.

#5 - Reinforce your new belief. A few ways that you can reinforce it are to use affirmations, practice gratitude, have visuals, and look for things throughout the day that supports this new belief.

This is a practice that you need to be intentional with and resilient. These old beliefs will come back from time to time. When they do it will be reframing your thoughts and reminding yourself of your new belief system.

Having beliefs that serve you, will drastically improve your performance, leadership, and the heights that you can reach!
